Biogas plant at farm as R&D and training arena
Through this project, the biogas plants at Tingvoll farm and at Inge Hoemsnes will get improved operation and process in the plants and provide better utilization of electricity, heat and bio-residue. At the same time, the facilities will be used for training.
Farm biogas plants has been established both at Inge Hoemsnes and at Tingvoll farm. These are two of few facilities currently in Norway, but it is expected that more facilities will be established in the near future. The project will make it possible to follow the production process in detail, with a larger scope of analyzes than one usually has the opportunity or resources to do. A field trial will also be carried out to study the fertilizer effect of bio-residue.
The knowledge will be used to develop further operations, as well as transferred to other facilities that are planned or under establisment. Future use of surplus electricity from biogas production to use in electrical machines on the farm will be considered in a student thesis. The knowledge will also be used to teach bioeconomics in practice to upper secondary students. They will gain insight into how fertilizers and other substrates are broken down by microorganisms, what a plant consists of, how it is operated, how to analyze gas and fertilizers to better control and improve the plant, and how to use energy and bio-residues both in small and large biogas plants.
